We all know:
- that across all ethnicities and all age groups, breast cancer is on the rise globally.
- that the best known defense against Breast Cancer is early detection.
However, do we all know:
- that there are no available effective Breast Cancer screening tools for women under 40 years of age?
- that in countries like India and China, 50% of all Breast Cancers are diagnosed in women younger than 50 years of age? (in 2008, this number was higher than 50,000)
- that by 2020, 70% of all breast cancers will be found in developing countries?
A lot of people and organizations are spreading the word on Breast Cancer; creating awareness to enable women to take control of their own health and address concerns as early as possible and as adequately as possible.
After awareness comes action.
Women that are aware of breast cancer today, especially young women under 40 years of age are looking for a cost-effective, accurate, pain-free and convenient screening procedure to manage their breast health on an annual basis. They are looking for a solution that will track their breast health for smallest developing abnormalities so that an appropriate intervention can be made at the earliest noticeable onset of the disease.
The most commonly used tool by mainstream medicine for breast cancer screening is Mammography. However, for young women, women with dense breasts and women at high-risk of developing breast cancer, Mammography is not an effective stand-alone screening exam. Mammography is generally not recommended for more than once over a 12 month period and certainly not for young women for annual screening.
There is an emergent need for a cost-effective, accurate and convenient adjunctive breast cancer screening procedure for women of all ages; a procedure that can be repeated annually and if need be, on shorter durations.
